Company director, Paula Bedborough, understands the challenges of socialising and staying safe. Having worked in pubs and clubs as a door supervisor, and then running a business that trained thousands of security operatives, she has seen at first hand the devastating effects that having your bag or phone stolen can have.

“Most of us will know what it feels like to have lost your phone or have had your bag go missing. It’s a nightmare trying to replace keys and ID. Some things are irreplaceable, like photos or data on laptops. We carry a lot of high value items with us when we are out enjoying ourselves and it’s been impossible to find somewhere safe to put them, or somewhere secure to charge your phone. Until now.

We want people to have a great time safely and we also want to support businesses to create the safest and most enjoyable customer experiences. We carried out lots of research to look at how we could create a solution to help everyone have a great time in a safe environment.

We spoke to bar owners, their customers, the Metropolitan Police and other experts in the nighttime economy safety. I was shocked to find out the scale of the problem, with the Metropolitan Police statistics reporting that a laptop was stolen from a bar every 53 seconds.

Our extensive research told us that people wanted somewhere to securely charge their phones and to store their coats, shopping, and bags, but they didn’t want the hassle of keys or codes. So, we looked at how we could make keyless, fingerprint-activated smart lockers.

Working with an innovative engineering company, Lindhurst Engineering, and a number of universities, including Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham University, Coventry University, and Aston University we developed our smart locker system. Our manufacturing and University partners have supported the development and testing of various aspects of our technology, helping to make our unique smart locker systems.

And we are delighted to announce the next stage of our journey, where we will be trialing our system at Nottingham Trent Student Union as part of a range initiatives that the NTU is leading on to support student safety and wellbeing.”
